I just read the article, and she doesn't really say what your headline suggests she says, which is probably why the original article doesn't use your headline. Nor do I think it's accurate to say that images of rape and lynchings would make a movie NC-17.

I'm not sure what America you live in, but in mine, we glorify violence and cringe away from explicit consensual (erotic) sex. Rape scenes are pretty pervasive in R-rated fare.

Didn't see The Help, though. Seems like the sort of movie white people like to watch to feel good about how diverse they are.

Or they could show the rapes, beatings and racial "lynching" of whites, asians or latinas at the hands of blacks that happens everyday currently.

@Brian Ford,

Actually, I did see The Help and I respectfully disagree with your assessment. The story revolved around some strong black women who were making the best of a bad situation--working as maids, raising white children in homes where they were considered too "dirty" to use the bathroooms.

@Midnight Toker,

The FBI's crime statistics clearly state that almost three-quarters---I believe the actual number is 72%---of ALL racially motivated crimes in this country are committed AGAINST black people BY whites. Another 15% or so involved whites being attacked by blacks and the remainder are "everyone against everyone else."

Most victims of "black crime" are other blacks, and are therefore not considered "hate crimes" or "racially motivated" attacks. Make sure no one's putting "additives" in your "4+20"...like embalming fluid.

    Of course of FBI statistics show this when attacks on other races from blacks are never considered a supposed "hate crime". Blacks although only 10-15% of the population commit a disproportionate amount of the murders, robbery, rapes ect.. I agree most victims from blacks are other blacks. To deny that this small demographic commits a large majority of interracial crime is incorrect though. Its just the classification is not allowed for them in the PC society we live in.

    @Midnight Toker,

    I'm glad you are your own source. Can't be too careful these days. Seriously.

    We'll have to respectfully disagree that the criminal minority in the black community commits the majority of interracial crime, though, unless/until you (or someone) can produce numbers from a source as credible as the FBI---which, IMO, is an excellent source. My unfortunately all-too-direct experience with this is that criminally-inclined blacks are drawn to "thug life" and would have to wade through relatively large numbers of other black "targets of opportunity" to get to a "non-black" victim.

    So happens I grew up in the 'hood and knew a lot (make that A LOT) of criminals and most of them ever did anything to a white person---beyond sell them drugs, various types of stolen property, and catch beatdown from white cops for punching one out while resisting arrest. That's not to even suggest that black folks never attack white people in the street, or even that this is uncommon.

    That said----I totally agree that if a black person assaults a white person (or Latino or Asian) because the victim is white, then this black person is as guilty of a hate crime as any church-bombing, noose-tying Klansman, and should be treated accordingly by the law.
